Frequently Asked Questions 

Which devices are covered?

Smartphones and tablets purchased in Switzerland or Liechtenstein.
 

  • For Care and Care Premium: the device must be insured within 6 months of purchase and be in perfect working condition at the time of enrollment.
  • For Keep & Care: only devices already used for more than 6 months with a Salt SIM card, in perfect working condition.
     

Can I subscribe to Salt Care if I didn’t buy my device from Salt or if my device is more than 6 months old?

Yes. You can insure a device purchased from Salt or from any other retailer in Switzerland/Liechtenstein, as long as it is used with a Salt SIM card.

  • If your device was purchased within the last 6 months, you are eligible for Care or Care Premium.
  • If your device is older than 6 months ago, Care and Care Premium are no longer available. However, you can still protect it withKeep & Care, which covers screen breakage

What are the main exclusions?

Care

  • Pre-existing damages (before subscription).
  • Cosmetic damages (scratches, scrapes) without functional impact.
  • Normal wear and tear, oxidation (incl. decreasing power of battery).
  • Software damages (virus, system failure).
  • Damages caused by gross negligence or intentional acts.
  • Theft or loss.

Care Premium

  • Includes all exclusions of Care, except that theft is covered. Some limits still apply:
  • Theft when the insured person is not present (ex. device left unattended).
  • Device left visible inside a vehicle.
  • Damage caused by war, terrorism, civil unrest or natural disasters.

Keep & Care

  • Includes all exclusions of Care, plus:
  • No coverage for liquid damage.
  • No coverage for manufacturing defects, software issues, or any damage beyond screen breakage.

What do I need to bring to a Salt Store?

Bring your working device and proof of purchase (from Switzerland or Liechtenstein, dated less than 6 months). Our advisors will activate your protection on the spot.

How many claims are covered?

  • Care & Care Premium: 2 claims per 12-month period.
  • Keep & Care: 1 claim per 12-month period.
     

Do I have to pay a deductible?

Yes, a deductible of CHF 99 applies per claim, except in cases of fraudulent SIM card use.

What risks are covered?

  • Keep & Care: only screen breakage caused by a sudden and unforeseen drop or shock.
  • Salt Care: accidental damage (drop, shock, liquid), fraudulent use of the SIM card in case of theft.
  • Salt Care Premium: same protections as Salt Care + theft of the device + warranty extension up to 3 years.

How do I file a claim?

Claims are handled by bolttech.

You must report the claim online at www.caresupport.ch within 5 days of the event.

What is the duration of the insurance?

The minimum duration is 24 months for all plans.

Can I cancel my insurance?

  • Within 31 days (Care & Care Premium) or 14 days (Keep & Care) after subscription, cancellation is possible free of charge.
  • After 24 months, cancellation is possible at any time with 2 months’ notice.
